
FESTIVALS Y TRADITIONS
Festivals in Ampudia are distributed in four main dates during the whole year:
* 1st March: Guardian Angel Day . It is celebrated with typical picnics in Alconada meadows with typical products such as: Spanish omelette, "tanganillos" and oranges.
* 15th May: Saint Isidro Labrador. The saint is carried outside in a religious procession to bless the fields, with a folk music group playing the "dulzaina" (a traditional musical instrument) and an offer is made with products of the area.
* 8th September: It is the main feast in the village, everybody in Ampudia looks forward to this day with religious fervour because it is the patron saint feast, Our Mother of Alconada.There is an open day gathering around the monastery, it is also amateur bullfighting with young bulls, open air dances etc. Most people from the village who do not live there come these day to spent the celebration of the patron saintīs day.
* 29th September: Saint Michael Archangel,the saint that gives the name to the parish church. There are fires outside and a folk music group plays the "dulzaina".
Among the traditions that are still practiced in Ampudia, we have to talk about dances and the"paloteo"dance (a dance with sticks),and the annual celebration of a festival where folk dance groups take part. This festival takes place during the first days of August.
There is also a lacemaking exhibition in summer.During the exhibition, women show the characteristics of these types of lacemaking and they make them in public. This exhibition is located under the the street arcades in Ampudia.
