History

It is supposed that the name of Autilla, very similar to the name of another village of the province, Autillo, comes from the name of a bird called "autillo". So the actual name comes from the great number of these birds in the past. Another theory about its name is that it comes from Latin "altus", in reference to a high place, so from that name it comes the actual one.

It is also believed that it could be the Celtiberian "Aconthia", so it means that there was a Vacceos setting next to Pallantia. It seems that the setting of the village on the top of a hill and its easy defence from conflicts was chosen by Iberian tribes because of strategical reasons.

There is an arch of militar style with the coat of arms of the village carved on it. This arch was part of the wall which surrounded the village and it is from the XVI century.

There are also several houses with coat of arms, testimony of their glorious past.
